5/10/2013 1178 update. As work continues on the other buses at some pace, Bernard has decided that now is the time to move 1178 undercover so that her restoration can be completed for next year. We have decided to remove the complete windscreen so the whole front end can be sorted out. Also this will give us chance to remove the wheelchair door and install the emergency window again. She will also have a service too.
16/5/2013 May updates. Our sister site at Southern Counties Omnibus Collection has been updated with news and pictures of the recent work on Leyland National 1178. At the same time I decided to get our crew room on 5807 operational giving us somewhere to sit in the dry and have a hot drink or hot food. This now done but still needs completing. It's one of those jobs that isn't connect to keeping the buses on the road but still needs to be done.
22/7/2012 5137 finally fixed.I've finally fixed the pesky water leak on 5137 and she drove around the yard today for the first time in a year. This of course is the problem with not having inspection pits...
1178 was also whisked around the yard by Claire and is now parked in the line up with the 'deckers in the fleet as opposed to being shoved at the back. With 7980 no longer here it does allow us more space. 28/8/2011 1178 front panel sorted out!Andy managed to refit the front panel on the National that literally fell out. Investigations revealed that the bus had received accident damage on this near side corner which had probably popped the rubber off of the lip. We do have an original Pay As You Enter sign but if was too small to fit so the original, which broke in half when it fell out, was refitted with some washing up liquid and sealant!
1/6/2011 Naughty Nuw!Nuw our Titan failed her MOT due to some of the rear lights failing at the test centre, typical eh? She goes back for a part re test on the 17th which will give me chance to get the faulty switches replaced.
On a brighter note, I now have a windscreen for National 1178 so once everything with Nuw is sorted out I can get this fitted. 7/5/2011 Work starts on 1178I have started working on our National 1178 (EFN178L) with a view to put her up for test after Nuw goes up. This will probably be sometime in June (all being well)! I've started stripping down the area around the wheelchair door to see whats involved in putting a standard window and panel back in and I must say, she looks pretty good. Oddly enough, the rusty bits are what was put in there to support the door and aren't original to the old girl - this was similar to DMS550 where the window had been put in where the front doors were.
7/11/2010 New Car (Bus?) Stickers.I was down at our yard last Thursday pottering about and I've managed to get some stickers done for the backs of all the buses! All the ones that are on the road or will be on the road are now fitted with them and very smart they look too! I've ordered some posters for the insides now of a similar design.
Whilst down there I met up with Andy who has just bought a share in 1178 the Leyland National. Like me, Andy is ex Stagecoach at Thanet and is very keen (we'll soon knock that out of him!!!). If you're interested in a share or just want to know whats what, contact me. 20/10/2010 0 Comments New YouTube VideoI've added another YouTube video of EFN178L, only this time of me being successful picking her up from Dover last Sunday! Good news also that EFN178L our 'new' Leyland National has been fixed by FotEK and will be winging it's way into our collection next weekend (fingers crossed!) in the mean time I've posted a video of her on YouTube when Bernard and me went to pick her up last time but were foiled by the dreaded air leak. 28/9/2010 0 Comments New Vehicles Joining our Fleet! We have some new arrivals in the Bamford Sealy fleet. New to East Kent Leyland National EFN178L which was owned by Fiends of the East Kent until earlier this month. 1178 was saved and restored by Carl Underwood after working in the Nottingham area for GK Kinch as a mobility bus. She is currently restored in the 'de-reg rhubard and custard' livery the same as 7980. 1178 needs a new drivers side windscreen and a few electrical jobs done and she should be fit for an MOT. We're hoping to get her out and about this year - something she's sadly missed out on for about 4 years. We also have a limited run of shares available in her if your interested in becoming a part owner. CONTACT ME for more information on this.
Today Bernard and me picked up new to London Transport Leyland Titan T553 (NUW553Y, HIG5681) which was really off the radar and somewhat out of the range of our collection you may think? Well, no not really. NUW worked for Stagecoach when she left London and was converted to single door and 'provincial' style destination panel so as she stands she is more Stagecoach than London and makes a very tidy bus. These Titans worked everywhere in the Stagecoach network when they left London, from Bluebird in Scotland to East Kent and everywhere in between! We may use a little 'artistic license' here, after all, the Stagecoach stripes aren't really a classic enough livery for a preserved bus! NUW will be appearing in a 'heritage livery' of a Stagecoach subsidary that operated the ex London Titans, and no, it's not the old East Kent livery! NUW laterly served with Roberts Coaches of Wingham who of course ran former T953 as HIG5682. This was subject of a recent NEWS post so I won't recap apart from saying NUW was VERY close to heading off to the scrap yard too. In fact only a last minute phone call at 0715 that morning saved her from being driven off to scrap at 1000. They don't get closer than that! NUW comes with an MOT and is ready to roll. She needs a damn good clean out thugh having spent 6 or 7 years taking the local cherubs to and from school. Both buses bring new technology into our fleet, air suspension and dodgey electrical systems (7681 please take note!) so this should be an interesting learning curve. Look out for new webpages on the site for both buses coming soon to this site. |
